I know I'm terribly sporadic on LJ these days, so could someone just tell me what I'm missing here... Why does everyone suddenly have a Dreamwidth account? Is there a mass exodus going on that I missed?

They heavily revised the comment layouts. You have your journal set-up so it doesn't show but you can see it on quite a few journals and communities. Ah, the FE anon meme has the new comment format if you want to check it out.

I'd heard about the comments kerfuffle but I didn't realize it was a big enough deal for people to jump ship.

They rolled out a major change, "88," that the userbase didn't care for. Those of us who already thought LJ was pretty skeevy decided it was a good time to head for the exits.

My paid account is up pretty soon, and I think they've demonstrated over the years they don't deserve my money.

It's true that things have never been the same since they were bought out but... I've had journal here for so long I can't say I'm keen on having to start over on another sight. And what about the comms?

Dreamwidth is about to roll out comm importation, first for paid users and then for unpaid accounts. So the comm issue should resolve itself shortly.

I didn't want to start over, either, but with my paid account about to expire, and LJ's track record not getting any better, it felt like time to jump.

Comment layout change. An instance of people freaking out over a minor change.

I find it amusing that this is getting people to leave, and not prior things like strikethrough that were more insidious.

Yeah, I'm not sure why it's such a huge deal. I mean it's annoying but I don't see how it's annoying enough to make people leave in droves.

Yup, people leaving over minor changes. Some people just can't handle change. We are a strange people, set in our ways.

Honestly, not enough difference for me to notice.

I noticed it and changed my journal settings to avoid dealing with it but I'm surprised that it's a big enough deal to drive people away. I mean Facebook makes annoying changed every other week but I endure it because I'm sort of rooted there now.

Haha, I know how you feel. Been off LJ for a while due to IRL, and the next thing I know, people are freaking. 0___o

I'm still sticking around though. I've been on LJ since I started high school almost 8 years ago! :o

Glad to hear it! I've had mine for eight years as well-- since the spring of 2004-- so I can't imagine ditching it. However, I definitely wasn't in high school then. ;D
