I think I'm due for a vacation. I haven't had one since September. I need to hold out until the end of May.

I should have posted during the week when I was all excited. Has anyone on my flist read the the Artemis Fowl books? I've been reading them and... I love them! They're great! I can't believe I didn't know this. On the up side it means there are six of them for me to read-- I'm currently in the middle of book five, though heaven knows I've got spoilers up the wazoo thanks to Wikipedia. There's even a ship I like, though it may be the wrong one, which is depressing, but you'd think I'd get over my need for canonicity...

Things have been otherwise uneventful. I been having troubling writing, which makes me feel... awful. So instead I've been writing reviews for RandomNPC. I posted on for Persona 4; a feature review for Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, and I've got a draft of one for PuzzleQuest Galactrix, which I do not recommend as it was a very sloppy piece of work: bad controls, some poor gameplay decisions, obnoxious loading times-- the works.

Oh and I found a rather cute piece of Seth/Eirika fanart that I feel must be shared with the universe:

The books are about Artemis Fowl, who, at the beginning of the series is a twelve-year-old criminal mastermind. He finds out that fairies really exist and comes up with an elaborate plot to kidnap one and hold it for ransom. Which he manages successfully but, as luck would have it, the fairy he kidnaps is Captain Holly Short of the LEP recon (known in human myths as leprechauns ;D ). Needless to say, she gives him a bit a trouble.

In a lot of ways the first book is the least interesting because Artemis is the bad guy in it, though even then reader is meant to sympathise with him. He's not evil. He's a genius and conniving, but he has doubts about what he's doing and he's also a child whose father is missing and presumed dead, and whose mother has sunk so far into a depression that she no longer recognises him. But through the first book and especially beginning in the second one, he begins to develop a conscience and as he does, and through his various adventures with the fairy folk and Holly in particular (she's the main female character in the series– she's really cool *fangirls*), he becomes a more interesting and complex character.

The stories themselves are fun – full of adventure and James Bond sort of touches like cool gadgets and surveillance tricks and that sort of thing – and have a great deal of humour, so they're really a treat to read.

So umm... yeah that was supposed to be shorter. Oh well. ;D

It's a really fun series-- very clever and adventurous, but with really great detail to character development. When I read the first book I was only "okay" with it, but when I read the second I was hooked. It just gets better from there.

Cuteness in and of itself is delicious, but when you throw it in the magical blender that is Caramelldansen, then my soul shrinks just a little bit. Usually because then the song gets stuck in my head.

Oh Heavens, now I have to search for them on youtube! Haha. If you like Ranulf, try this link for him doing the dance. I watch it when I've had a bad day. :D

Maybe when Eirika told him they'd be caramelldansen he thought it was a euphemism for something else involving toppings and was sorely disappointed.

Book six was published last year. I just finished book five today. I love it! Eee! I can't remember the last time I felt such glee at reading a book. And they get progressively better!
