Strange visitor
There is, at this very moment, an owl perched in the crabapple tree outside. And I got PICS!

You have to understand that my neighbourhood is about 15-20 minutes out of downtown Ottawa so I'm always amazed at the creatures that show up around here. It seems to be a combination of the large number of old trees here and our proximity to the Gatineau Park. This is the first time I've seen an owl, though. Take a look!

That last pic totally says, "OWL SEES WHUT UR DOIN THAR". XDDD

God I wanna take that owl home. Too bad it'd be kinda illegal, huh? XD

I suppose I could have tried mailing him to you, but I'm sure he'd have been agreeable to such a plan. ;)

I'm so glad I bought my new camera last spring and splurged on the lens. It's totally worth it for shots like this.

AW! he's so pretty! you should name him frederick or something. i rarely see owls at home either, but i hear them sometimes. we get a lot of red-tailed hawks and blue herrons though, and the occasional kingfisher. once a really long time ago, we had a pileated woodpecker on our deck. they aren't usually down this far south, so we were lucky to see him.

*is a bird dork*

Hee. Hee. I like spotting unusual birds too. Last winter/spring we were visited by a flock of what I discovered to be Bohemian waxwings. They were beautiful. We've also had falcons stop by a few times, lot of woodpeckers, and a few random birds I was never able to identify. None of the birds you mentioned though-- they probably don't live around these parts.

Dude, it's flirting with you in that last picture. Maybe he's a prince in owl disguise trying to find a fair maiden to release his curse. So...next time he comes around, you're obligated to catch it and snog it. Don't forget.

Wow, that's really neat. :D I don't think I've ever seen an owl outside of a zoo before. I've heard them, but they're always hiding.

His (her?) feathers look pretty, too.

I'd only ever seen them in zoos as well. And normally I don't even hear them, not around here. He probably travelled from some of the forested areas that are near the neighbourhood (deer have wandered in a couple of times and a bear once O_o). It was pretty cool though.

Nah. The creature's too placid for that. He glanced at me for a sec and then went back to his nap. Apparently I just wasn't that interesting. ;)

Awww! You are so lucky to see an owl. He's beautiful! I've never seen an owl around here, I'm lucky if I get to see a bird! And a robin or a crow at that, it's still pretty cool though, I never see them up close! Bird song is so pretty to hear and quite common compared to bird sighting.
The owl looks like Hedwig...oooh, it could be reincarnated.
