Meta Month, Day 6: Underwear!
I was exceedingly busy today and as a result I really can't come up with anything very deep to talk about... so let's go with under-things. I had the misfortune once of reading a fic that had Kyle wearing boxers. Because naturally the all-important question of boxers or briefs can be traced back to the fifteenth century. Naturally. *headdesk*

Okay, so while the character portraits have most of the boys in very modern-looking trousers, I really don't think we can have them modern underwear, if, for no other reason, than the lack of elastic bands. A more reasonable alternative would be a layer of light draw-string trousers, perhaps knee-length, which is a lot closer to something historically accurate. I suppose it's less sexy but as I don't write smut, I really don't care. ;P

As for what the girls are wearing under those skirts... I don't even want to go there.

I'd rather not imagine that. :/

Agreed on what the boys have on.

I do tend to assume that a fair number of the girls, a fair amount of the time, have nothing on under the skirts. Though the girls who favor trousers likely do as the boys do...

Would't that be rather uncomfortable when horseback riding, though? *shudders* Maybe they could probably fit some sort of loin cloth under there...

Also iirc boxers go further back than you'd think. Though they wouldn't be like our modern boxers, of course.

Not sure how to research that though. I do have old research notes about Medieval dress, including underthings, but nothing more modern. Wiki only lists boxers as a 20th century item and mentions "drawers" and for men up until the 19th century and then long-underwear like outfits. I imagine those were useful for warmth since that would've been an important consideration in a lot of places since they were relying on fireplaces for heat.
